Traverse Helmet in Matte Ice Green – Perfect Fit!, November 24, 2015
    By

Recently purchased a Traverse helmet in Matte Ice Green. Fit is perfect and customizable with a tightening nob on the back of the helmet. Took it up to Mammoth on my first ski trip of the season and could not have been happier with it. It’s not only the most comfortable helmet I’ve owned, but also kept my head extremely warm. Not to mention, I got countless compliments on the color and overall look. Going to Jackson Hole next month and can’t wait to bring it along with me. Thanks Traverse!

I chose this 2-in-1 helmet from Traverse Sports because my 13 year old son likes to go bike riding and is also going snowboarding during the holidays.

We have big heads and my boy is no exception. This helmet fits his head perfectly without the additional pads that are included however, we were able to install the additional pads and create a good fit for my daughter, who has a smaller head.

I’ll admit that I don’t have a huge amount of experience with helmets but when I compare this one with the few I have purchased over the years for my kids, I find it has some unique features that make it really exceptional. First, I love the removable ear muffs! They are thick and covered in a plush velour inside for comfort. Outside, they are covered in a water resistant nylon. The design is clever as it is one piece that wraps from one ear to the other around the back, creating warmth for your ears and your neck. This will be great for snowboarding! It’s easy to remove for warmer weather and other activities such as biking.

Also, there is a small zippered pouch in the area where the earmuffs wrap around the neck. It would be easy to miss because it has an invisible zipper. Traverse Sports says it’s for headphone storage but you could easily slip a little cash and some ID or a credit card in there.

There is a detachable chin strap pad that makes a huge difference in comfort. It’s a heavily padded velour and it’s super soft.

One of the best features is the adjustment wheel in the back. It lets you fine tune the fit so that it’s snug no matter what shape your head is.

The outer hard shell has a little lip on the front that will hold your visors/goggles up on the top of the helmet should you want to not wear them for a bit. There is a visor/goggle clip on the back that keeps them securely on your helmet even when not in use.

There are multiple ventilation perforations on the shell for temperature regulation. This is great for us because it’s hot in Texas most of the year.

My only complaints are that Traverse Sports doesn’t include any sort of user’s booklet. If this is your first helmet, the multiple pads and the clip on the back will be confusing. And as I said, the little zippered pouch in the back of the earmuffs is easily missed. Hopefully, they will include some kind of small manual in the future because there are so many great features even an owner might miss. You can get more info at their website, which is how I figured some of it out.

Very good value for a ski helmet. It fits comfortably. Strap can be pulled nice and snug. The knob on back adjusts the interior circumference easily for a good fit. Nice google strap holder in back. So functionally its a solid ski helmet at a very good price.

Relative to a more expensive ski-specific helmet, its missing a few bells and whistles: A higher end ski helmet might have (1) vents that open and close to adjust temp, (2) ear flaps that accept speakers, (3) less of a bmx biker look.

If none of those are important to you, consider this as a ski helmet option (or 2-in-1 option for biking) instead of a more expensive ski helmet
